How to run a 20-minute weekly plan as a solo business owner
By Brainy Planner · Updated October 14, 2026
When you run a business by yourself, nobody schedules your priorities for you. A short weekly plan keeps the week from being decided by whoever emails first. This routine takes about 20 minutes.
1. Look back (5 minutes)
Open last week's list. What got done? What did not, and why? Write one sentence about what worked and one about what to change. Move only the tasks that still matter.
2. Check the money (4 minutes)
Look at what came in, what went out and what is owed to you. List any invoices to send or chase this week. Knowing the numbers once a week prevents surprises at month end.
3. Check your pipeline (3 minutes)
For every active client, lead or project, note the next step and who owes it. A task like "follow up with the prospect from last week" is easy to lose without a list. A simple tracker with a next action and a date for each lead is enough.
4. Pick the priorities (4 minutes)
Choose up to three outcomes for the week, not ten tasks. Ask: if only these happened, would the week be a success? Everything else is optional.
5. Put it on the calendar (4 minutes)
Block time for the priorities first, then fit meetings and admin around them. Keep one block free for the unexpected; weeks rarely go exactly to plan.
6. Set a fallback
Decide the one thing you will do if the week falls apart. Having it written down makes the bad days less costly.
Make it a habit
Pick a fixed time, such as Friday afternoon or Monday morning, and keep it short. A routine you actually do beats a perfect one you skip. The Grow Your Business Planner and Sales Pipeline & Follow-Up Tracker Kit include weekly review pages if you want a ready-made format.
